Dollywood wins five Golden Ticket Awards
Dollywood brought home five top awards and was a finalist in five additional categories in the theme park industry's 2012 awards program.
The Pigeon Forge amusement park was a first-time winner in three categories — Best Food, Friendliest Park, Best New Ride — and a repeat winner in the Best Shows and Best Christmas Event categories.
The 15th annual Golden Ticket Awards ceremony was held Saturday at Dollywood's Celebrity Theater.
Dollywood won Best Shows for the fourth consecutive year and Best Christmas Event for the fifth straight year.
"I'm overwhelmed and overjoyed by the five Golden Ticket Awards that Dollywood won," Dolly Parton said in a news release.
"I understand the voters are a who's who of folks who know the theme park industry, and I'm just tickled for our family that Dollywood can lay claim to the best food, shows, new ride, Christmas event and friendliest park in the world. And to be there and accept all of the awards at Dollywood while we hosted the event just makes these wins even sweeter for me."
The 150-acre theme park also won third place in the Best Park category and fourth place for Best Landscaping. Dollywood's Splash Country won fourth place for Best Waterpark and Mountain Slidewinder took fourth place for Best Water Ride.
Wild Eagle, Dollywood's new winged roller coaster, which won Best New Ride, was the highest ranked steel coaster and the park's Thunderhead coaster placed fourth in the Best Wooden Coaster rankings.
The awards are sponsored by the monthly trade magazine Amusement Today, the primary publication of the theme and amusement park industry. Golden Ticket winners are determined by results of an international survey.
