US Airways drops fares from Knoxville to Washington, D.C

7/28/2011

US Airways has announced it will drop its restricted walk-up fare by nearly 40 percent on flights from Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport to Washington, D.C. on tickets bought by Sept. 30.

Demand is high, especially among business travelers, for low-fare service between Knoxville and the nation's capital, Howard Vogel, chairman of the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority, noted in a prepared statement.

"With the large business and government presence in East Tennessee, having direct, affordable access to Washington, D.C. is a necessity," he said. "US Airways has listened to our concerns and is making a difference in fares at McGhee Tyson Airport."

More than 44,000 passengers traveled from McGhee Tyson to Washington Reagan National Airport in 2010.

US Airways has also lowered fares to more than 75 other destinations in the South and East from McGhee Tyson. Tickets must be purchased by Aug. 18 for travel between Aug. 22 and Nov. 17. Fares start at $99 each way plus taxes and fees. Restrictions apply.

US Airways operates 13 daily round-trip flights out of McGhee Tyson, with nonstop service to Washington Reagan, Charlotte and Philadelphia.
