Home to the University of Tennessee and the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (UT’s partnership with Battelle in managing ORNL is officially called UT-Battelle), the region is rapidly transforming its economy from a heavy reliance on traditional manufacturing to becoming a major player in the knowledge economy.”
