Knoxville, Tenn. - Scripps Networks today unveiled a $30 million expansion project that will nearly double the footprint of its Knoxville headquarters. Scripps Networks began in Knoxville in 1994 with the concept of Home and Garden TV, HGTV. The company, which has grown its Knoxville presence to 900 employees, now owns Food Network, DIY Network, Fine Living and Great American Country in addition to HGTV.
The high-profile company anchors a booming Knoxville-Oak Ridge Innovation Valley media production community that includes Jewelry Television, dozens of production companies such as RIVR Media and Jupiter Communications and numerous freelancers. Pellissippi State Technical Community College just opened its new $8.25 million Bagwell Center for Media and Art to provide coordinated training in such related disciplines as video production, web technology, graphics and photography.
Scripps is an employer of choice in the Innovation Valley, which has positioned itself as one of the top media production centers in the country along with New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Media production jobs are part of the reason Forbes magazine ranks the Knoxville-Oak Ridge Innovation Valley fifth in the nation on this year's "Best Places for Business and Careers" list.
